Dear readers,

We are excited to present the latest edition of Poultry News Africa, Volume 04, marking our first issue of 2026. In this edition, we explore the Chicken4U Project in Ghana, an initiative focused on producing and distributing dual-purpose poultry chicks that are suitable for both meat and egg production. This project targets the most remote rural areas, aiming to improve access to nutritious food while promoting economic independence, particularly for women and young people. Utilizing the African Poultry Multiplication Initiative (APMI) model, it strives to reach those who are most in need.

We also feature an intriguing article about Feed Hub and its subsidiary, Feed First East Africa, which operates out of South Africa and Tanzania. They specialize in modern feed formulation, offering services in laboratory application, feed mill design, optimization, and consulting for feed mills and integrated poultry businesses across the African continent. With extensive experience in markets such as South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Eswatini, and beyond, Feed HUB is well-equipped with insights into the unique technical and commercial challenges faced by African production systems.

Additionally, we highlight Maranatha Poultry, a key player in Namibia’s poultry industry, which has recently announced an ambitious expansion plan worth US$13.7 million. This initiative aims to more than double the company’s current production capacity, which stands at approximately 200 to 250 tonnes of poultry per month, primarily serving the domestic market. With the planned upgrades, Maranatha aims to ramp up production to over 800 tonnes monthly, enabling it to meet the increasing demand from retailers, wholesalers, and institutional buyers.
