Dear Readers,
We are pleased to present the July-September edition of Poultry News Africa, an insightful publication that focuses on key developments in the African poultry industry. This issue spotlights the dynamic progress in several African nations, particularly highlighting Egypt’s ambitious efforts to establish itself as a significant player in the veterinary vaccine industry. This initiative has gained momentum following high-level discussions between Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and a leading poultry vaccine manufacturer from South Korea, aimed at enhancing the country’s vaccine production capabilities and addressing the growing demand for animal health solutions.
In addition, we delve into Namibia’s poultry sector, which has reported remarkable advancements in 2024. The industry has achieved a production value of N$1.74 billion, translating to a remarkable 13 percent increase from the previous year’s figure of N$1.5 billion. This growth can be attributed to improved farming practices, increased investment in biosecurity measures, and a focus on sustainable poultry production, all of which have contributed to enhanced output and profitability within the sector.
Furthermore, we explore Nigeria’s potential as a future global poultry exporter, emphasizing the need to unlock various untapped opportunities. Currently, the majority of Nigeria’s poultry products are consumed domestically, with limited informal trade occurring within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region. However, industry analysts contend that by addressing current challenges—such as improving local production techniques, adhering to rigorous global food safety and quality standards, and establishing robust export protocols—Nigeria could successfully penetrate the international market, thereby boosting its economic standing and contributing to food security.
We wish you an engaging and informative reading experience.
