Oman has imposed a ban on importing poultry and livestock from Portugal and Egypt

Oman has implemented temporary bans on the import of poultry and livestock from Portugal and Egypt, respectively, as a precautionary measure to safeguard public health.

According to Ministerial Decision No. 235/2025, the import of live animals and their products, by-products, and offal from the Beheira governorate in Egypt is now prohibited. This decision comes in response to recommendations from the relevant veterinary authority and is in alignment with the Veterinary Quarantine Law (Royal Decree No 45/2004) and its related regulations.

Similarly, Ministerial Decision No 236/2025 prohibits the import of live birds and their corresponding products, by-products, and offal from the Santarém Province in Portugal, also citing precautionary health measures.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) indicated that these bans will remain in place until the health situations in these regions are adequately addressed, after which formal notice will be given to lift the restrictions. However, an exception is made for products and by-products that have been subjected to heat treatment or processing in accordance with international standards set by the World Organisation for Animal Health.
