A new factory in Gurúè, Mozambique, will eliminate the need for imported animal feed

Mozambique is set to eliminate its dependence on imported animal feed from Malawi with the opening of a new factory in Gurúè. President Daniel Chapo made this announcement on Friday after touring the facility located in the Gurue district of the central province of Zambezia. He indicated that the factory will provide feed to poultry producers not only in Zambezia but also in the northern provinces of Nampula, Niassa, and Cabo Delgado.

“This initiative will enable us to establish poultry production in the northern region of our country, including the breeding of hens, chickens, and the production of eggs,” stated Chapo. Until now, the majority of chickens and eggs in the Northern provinces have been imported from Malawi.

The new factory is part of the National Industrialisation Programme (PRONAI), managed by the Ministry of the Economy. President Chapo stressed that this strategic investment will strengthen the distribution chain for resellers and traders in the northern area. “Our aim is to create a sustainable and competitive poultry production sector in this region,” he added.

He also emphasized that the factory will employ young Mozambicans, furthering the development of “a new economy with decent jobs.” “These young individuals are proudly contributing to this industrial unit today,” Chapo remarked. “They embody the future we envision for Mozambique—a future filled with genuine opportunities for our youth.”
