Togo’s Poultry Production Reaches 38.6 Million Heads in 2024, Marking an 8% Increase

In 2024, Togo’s poultry production achieved a remarkable milestone, reaching 38.6 million heads. This information was reported by the Ministry of Economy, which referenced data from the Ministry of Livestock. The production figure aligns perfectly with the government’s forecast of 38 million for this fiscal year.

This year’s production reflects an impressive 8% increase compared to 2023, when Togo’s poultry output stood at 35.7 million heads. The growth in production indicates not only a recovery from previous challenges but also an enhancement in the efficiency and capacity of the poultry sector.

In terms of regional contributions, the Plateaux region emerged as the top producer, contributing 13 million heads, which accounts for nearly 34% of the total poultry output in the country. This figure indicates a steady growth trend, as the Plateaux region produced over 12 million heads the previous year, confirming its status as a key player in the national poultry industry.

Following the Plateaux, the Savanes region maintained a consistent output of 8 million heads, mirroring its production levels from both 2023 and 2022. Meanwhile, other regions contributed as follows: the Central region produced 6 million heads, the Kara region generated 5 million heads, and the Maritime region added 4.8 million heads to the overall total in 2024.

Looking forward, authorities are optimistic about the future of poultry production in Togo, with expectations set to exceed 41 million heads in the coming year. This ambitious goal is not solely aimed at hitting statistical targets; it also reflects a broader strategy to foster the development of a robust value chain within the poultry industry. The government aims to enhance food security, boost local economies, and create employment opportunities through the growth of this critical agricultural sector.
