The Embassy of the Netherlands in Tanzania proudly emphasises the outstanding partnership between Tanzania and the Netherlands in the poultry sector, which plays a crucial role in both nations’ economies and food security. With over 1,800 family-owned poultry businesses across the Netherlands, the country has established itself as a global leader in sustainable poultry practices, innovative technologies, and animal welfare standards.
In 2024, a prominent delegation from Tanzania, led by Prof. Daniel Mushi, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, undertook a significant study visit to the Netherlands. During this trip, they gained invaluable insights into advanced poultry management practices, biosecurity measures, and sustainable feed production techniques. This experience equipped them with the knowledge to implement innovative solutions within Tanzania’s poultry industry.
Simultaneously, in the same year, 11 distinguished Dutch poultry companies, coordinated by the Vencomatic Group, embarked on a trade mission to Tanzania. They conducted a series of master classes aimed at empowering local poultry stakeholders in regions such as Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam. By sharing their expertise in areas like hatchery management, poultry nutrition, and disease control, they are laying the groundwork for a robust and competitive poultry industry in Tanzania.
Key achievements of this collaboration include:
– One minister-led and private sector poultry study visit to the Netherlands, allowing Tanzanian officials to observe best practices firsthand.
– Three successful poultry trade missions from the Netherlands to Tanzania, fostering increased trade relations and knowledge exchange.
– Dutch companies showcasing innovative technologies at the Tanzania Poultry Show, including advancements in poultry housing and automation.
– Strengthened business-to-business (B2B) collaborations between Tanzanian poultry producers and the Dutch private sectors, leading to new partnerships and investment opportunities.
-Capacity-building programs initiated between Royal GD Animal Health and the Tanzania Veterinary Laboratory Authority, focusing on improving diagnostic capabilities and veterinary practices.
– Collaborations with Aeres Training Centre, which are enhancing poultry education through specialised training programs designed to build local expertise.
– Poultry health seminar held in Dar es Salaam, featuring a distinguished veterinary expert from Royal GD who provided crucial insights into disease prevention and management strategies.
This ongoing collaboration between Tanzania and the Netherlands continues to foster growth, innovation, and sustainability in Tanzania’s poultry sector, ultimately contributing to improved livelihoods and food security in the region.
