World Poultry Foundation Launches Training in Senegal to Boost Local Poultry Sector and Enhance Food Security

In order to support the growth of regional poultry enterprises and improve the competencies of recently hired field service representatives fsrs the world poultry foundation wpf recently organized an inspirational training session in senegal in partnership with couvoir amar the foundations goal to increase food security and economic prospects through sustainable poultry development was advanced in large part by this initial training session giving fsrs the information and abilities they need to become successful field representatives and important participants in senegals poultry industry was the main goal of this event . The foundational components of the Advanced Poultry Management Initiative (APMI) program, which stresses realistic, hands-on methods for raising, marketing, and creating effective Brooder Units (BU), which are the first line of care for chicks, were the particular objective of this training.

One of the central aspects of the training was the emphasis on recruiting Brooder Units, which are critical in the early stages of chick development. Brooder Units play a vital role in ensuring the health and viability of chicks in their first few weeks. By educating FSRs on the importance of these units, the WPF aims to establish a strong foundation for healthier poultry, which will contribute to the stability and growth of small-scale poultry farms in the region. During the session, field demonstrations provided FSRs with hands-on experience in identifying and setting up Brooder Units, managing chick health and feeding, and assessing environmental factors that impact chick survival rates. Through practical, real-world exercises, the training encouraged FSRs to grasp the fundamentals of chick brooding and understand how to train others effectively in establishing and maintaining Brooder Units.

In addition to technical components the training covered crucial marketing methods for growing poultry enterprises in senegal fsrs were given instructions on how to hold marketing meetings which is an important skill for increasing chicken demand and raising awareness of optimal practices in poultry farming these marketing sessions are intended to assist fsrs in connecting with local communities educating farmers on the advantages of poultry farming and encouraging the use of high-quality locally sourced poultry by mastering these tactics fsrs may encourage local farmers to engage in poultry farming with confidence knowing they have a dependable and effective support network.

The APMI program integrates a holistic approach, not only teaching technical skills but also focusing on building a supportive network within the poultry community. By training FSRs to act as community liaisons and trusted sources of information, the WPF is helping foster a sustainable ecosystem where poultry farming can thrive. This approach aligns with the WPF’s broader vision of developing self-sufficient poultry sectors in developing countries, enabling farmers to achieve economic independence and contribute to local food security. Each FSR trained under the APMI program will be capable of guiding farmers through the technical, managerial, and commercial aspects of poultry farming, thus creating a positive ripple effect throughout Senegal’s rural communities.

The enthusiasm and engagement displayed by the newly recruited FSRs during this first training session were promising. The session not only covered essential knowledge but also provided the FSRs with a sense of purpose and direction as they prepare to become essential resources in their communities. As the WPF and Couvoir Amar continue to support these FSRs, the skills they acquire will translate into practical improvements in poultry productivity and health across Senegal. The efforts of these FSRs will be instrumental in raising awareness, educating farmers, and promoting sustainable practices that align with the WPF’s goals for sustainable poultry development.

All things considered the first training session was a thrilling start to the apmi program in Senegal the world poultry foundation couvoir amar and the fsrs commitment to developing a sustainable poultry sector that can provide both food security and economic growth was demonstrated by this by empowering local farmers and implementing better poultry management techniques the knowledge and techniques gained during this training session will create the basis for a robust poultry industry in senegal as the program develops.
