To enhance food security in Nigeria, the Federal Government has launched a program, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), to empower poultry farmers in Ondo State. This effort, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewal Hope Agenda, underscores the government’s commitment to boosting local agriculture and improving food production in the country.
The program’s main focus is to provide farmers with the information and resources they need to succeed in the poultry industry. Under the leadership of Permanent Secretary Mr Temitope Fasedemi, FMAFS has provided training to 372 farmers in four important local government areas: Ondo West, Ondo East, Idanre, and Ile-Oluji. This focused approach guarantees a broader reach within the state’s agricultural industry.
The training program extends beyond traditional classroom sessions. To guarantee the participating farmers’ immediate success, FMAFS has supplied essential supplies. All 327 chosen recipients were given a starter pack which included 25 day-old chicks, three 25kg bags of poultry feed, and a pack of zyme, a digestive enzyme that supports the health of the chicks. This all-encompassing strategy enables farmers to start poultry production quickly and efficiently.
It is significant to mention that this program aligns with previous initiatives implemented in Ondo North and South. Farmers in those areas were given not just the basic supplies for poultry farming, but also pesticides, spray equipment, and machinery for preparing the land. This illustrates the government’s comprehensive strategy for
agricultural advancement, which aims to meet a variety of needs across the sector.
Fasedemi’s determination to provide continuous support is praiseworthy. He encouraged the recipients to make effective use of the knowledge they gained and to use the farm inputs wisely. Mrs. Atinuke Darapale and Mr. Akinmade Oladipupo were among the beneficiaries who responded enthusiastically to the positive impact of the program.
